Yeah, I've made it

Unlike the All Blacks, this girl is a winner!!

It has been interesting for me to note that when I have put aside a decent amount of time and really focused on the 23 things after much huffing and puffing I have really started to get into it.

There are of course amongst all that we have learnt some technologies which are of more value that others. now the exciting thing we have to think about for 2008 is which ones do we want to focus on and include on our Library web site.

Thank you Donna for a fantastic effort in working with us all and ensuring there is a tick in the box even for "The Boss".

PS. Thanks for the great sparkly tree.

Podcasts

Played around a bit with this one. the examples provided by 23 Things were not really what a was looking for but I did find by doing a Google search that it could be found if you had the time to search. Would like to find a site that has podcasts of whole books, chapter by chapter. Guess they exist, will have to have a search.
The photo was taken in St Ives, Cornwall. One of my favourite places.

YouTube & Rowan Atkin

Sorry Angela, this photo was especially for you.

This was an easy one as I've been playing around in YouTube for sometime now.
I have chosen the Rowan Atkin skit as an Indian Waiter to put on my blog as it makes me laugh every time I see it.
Enjoy!

Stumbleupon

I had a good look around the Web 2.0 Awards narrowing it down by going straight to the winners page. Ended up focusing on Stumblearound which was second in the Social tagging section. Certainly could see no value within the library setting but I guess if you wanting photos of really weird things it would be a place to go. I would imaginge that the people using this have a great deal of time to search these things out and it's a place to show what they have found. Some of the photos were great but others VERY weird. Amazing to know just how many Web 2.0 sites there are out there.

Zoho Writer

VERY clever. I have created two documents using templates. One was a mock up of a could be invitation to the UCOL Library Christmas lunch and the other a letter to Donna thanking her for her efforts in assisting me to complete 23 Things in my quest to receive the sparking christmas tree. I would imagine you use Zoho if you didn't have Office or some such on your home computer?? Is that how it works although I thought you always needed to install at least something. Look forward to the many interesting comments and feedback on this.

Overused Word of the Month

There is a comment on Wikis in the Jan.08 North & South p130 about the need to obliterate the use of the term "wiki". To quote "Using "to wiki" as a verb referring only to wikipedia is not just ugly, it also excludes the other kinds of wiki". have a look.

We can't stop them (wikis) but in my opinion they must be used with the understanding of what they really are. Someones opinion and not hard fact.

This photo is for you Donna. It is the .......

Windows Live Messenger

ummm!!! couldn't get this to install even with Donna's help. I understand that it is pretty much the same as skype and with Sharon's insistance we are skyping from time to time.
Anyway, Donna has confirmed that I have tried with this and that's good enough for her.

Library Thing

I'm back to complete 23 Things cause I want a sparkling christmas tree thingy!!
I was prepared not to think much of Library Thing but in fact would use (if I can remember to) to get book reviews of my favourite authors new books. Easy to work through and could have spent quite some time on the site except i have a power of work yet to do before my sparking tree is on my desk.

Week 7 Tagging, Techrorait and stuff

ummm !!!
I'm caught between wanting to please Donna nd complete 23 Things before I leave next week and wanting to take more time and enjoy the learning experience.
Del.icio.us
i've heard people talking about Del.icio.us and know i think I know what it does. It's all about making order of your 'favourites' and beings able to access them anywhere you log on.
Can imagine that people who spend a great deal of time researching on the web would find this really useful. The more you delve into 23 things the more I realise how much there is to learn. Soooo much information .
Technorait
Often wondered how you located blogs. Now I know.
What does Library 2.0 mean to me - more information than I can absorb, Exciting to be part of the next generations way of doing things. Challenging but fun.

I'm won on Skype

Not such a bad things this Skype. I figure that Karyn and I could use it quite a bit. Certianly while the phones are causing us grief.

The photo is of Jessica Sophie. Jessica is Colin's latest grandaughter so I consider myself an almost Nana.

Doesn't get much bettter than this.

Talking Tomato

gif animation

I think this could be a lot of fun. Once I allowed myself to relax and enjoy playing (not that playing is usually a problem). Think I'll try somthing else.

Another one done and dusted

My personal challenge was to be up to date before the next 23 Things comes out on Friday.
Found Flickr quite fun and not as challenging as I had NetVibe. I can see that I could load photos while I'm away onto the Flickr site and everyone can share. No promises that it will happen but will think seriously about it. Once again needed help to get the photo up but made it in the end.

Netvibes up and running

I couldn't even remember how to post a blog this morning but our trusty Donna explained AGAIN where the "sign on" tab was.

I wasn't fussed about doing the NetVibes section I must admit but once I go over myself I really quite enjoyed it. I now have a very attractive Netvibes page which I open each morning (to see what the weather is like in Paris). I can see the value of having everything together and hope to spend more time reading the information that is coming through.

Don't know how much more I can take on board but I will keep trying.

So here we go!

I know all this Web 2.0 stuff is meant to be easy but to be honest it is certainly not instinctive for me. However I do believe we need to at least attempt to understand the world of our students and what better way than to dive straight in.
Can't imagine that blogging is going to become part of my life but then again I didn't think txting would either.
